Wow last day! Woke up at 4:30, celebrated Maggie’s birthday, and headed off to D.C. Everyone got very emotional before we departed which was very touching. For some, this was the last big bucket list item for them to complete. John Hill couldn’t even get out of a chair a year ago because he had sepsis so bad in his knee. I’m very inspired by all of our riders and the friendships and connections I’ve made on this trip. We rode around the National Mall and took pictures at the Capitol, before reaching Bethesda, Maryland to say our final goodbyes and pack up our stuff. I’m relieved that it’s over, but I’m also very glad that I did it. It taught me a lot about myself, people, the world, and what I want to do in life and who I want to be and what really matters in life. Swept today with Maggie, was behind Wayne, Marty, and his brother Tommy who rode with us about halfway and then turned back as he had to go back home. Nice country roads until the middle of the ride which was a narrow busy road, but then rode on the Old Dominion Multi-Use Path that had relatively low traffic on it, mostly walkers. Went to lunch at this oyster bar and ordered raw oysters and a ahi tuna salad that was exceptional. Hung out at the church for a while and chatted with the fellow riders and reflected on the trip a lot. Dinner was provided by the church and Neil gave out our cross country stickers, recognized Mike Weiser who has raised $350K !!!!! for the Fuller Center for Housing which is quite remarkable. He’s also ridden over 100k miles on Fuller rides over the years.
